This is one in a series of geocaches placed by Texas A&M Forest Service to showcase various aspects of the agency and properties it manages. This is located at the Hudson Office.
The Hudson Compound was originally part of the Texas A&M Agriculture Extension Service and was used in grass and grazing studies. The Texas A&M Forest Service acquired us of the property in the 1970's and began to use the area for genetic studies of pine, and later urban hardwood, trees. While active pine studies are no longer conducted, seed is periodically collected from hardwood areas in the bottom. TAMFS area District and Maintenance operations were moved to the Hudson location in the early 1980's.
This facility currently serves as the headquarters for East Texas regional forest management and regional fire protection. It is also the District Office for forest management and fire protection for Angelina and Trinity counties. Included in this office are Central Region Dispatch, the Texas Interagency Coordination Center and the regional maintenance and fabrication shop, along with several other programs. In terms of personnel, this is the second largest TAMFS office after the state headquarters in College Station.
The Hudson Office is typically open during regular business of 8 am to 5 pm, Monday-Friday. For additional information, visit the office at 155 Texas Forest Service Loop, Lufkin, TX 75904 or call (936) 875-4400.
