Native Vegetation Planting of Shrubbery and Trees
A project in partnership with the City of Adelaide
Adelaide City Council has set out a great site for our geocaching community to help plant trees and shrubs next to the River Torrens. This planting is part of a wider native vegetation restoration project along the River Torrens.
It is in a great location to be able to also see our fruition of our labour since it is an easy spot to drive past on our various commutes. Holes will be pre-drilled, which should facilitate plantings.
The River Torrens stretches a vast 85 kilometres from the Adelaide Hills near Mt Pleasant to the Gulf St Vincent just south of Henley Beach, weaving its way through bush reserves, agricultural, urban and industrial landscapes.
Work gloves and boots (closed shoes) are recommended. Hats, weather appropriate clothing, drinking water and snacks may also be considered. Parking is available along the street, but limited.
Small shovels will be supplied. A first aid kit, and sunscreen will be available if required from Adelaide City Council.
Please arrive on time for a mandatory induction by Adelaide City Council at 9:30 a.m., in which then we will proceed to fill the area with trees and shrubs. The introduction session will include a welcome, inductions and run through of site induction (hazards, first aid etc.), volunteer sign off sheet, and a general overview of biodiversity in the city and the project this planting is contributing to.
Following this, there will be a ‘how to’ planting demonstration, and then we will commence the "planting bonanza".
Children and families are more than welcome, but please be aware of surrounding busy streets. Children must be supervised.
This event will go ahead if weather is slightly untoward (drizzly), but should the forecast look to have torrential rain, then the day will be canceled/deferred.
