Why:
The 20th July 2019 is the 50th anniversary of the first ever landing on the moon. Apollo 11 landed 'Eagle' allowing Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to be the first people to walk on the moon leaving Michael Collins in the Command Module.
What:
Following last years successful paper airplane event celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the RAF, I was asked what my plan was for this year! As luck would have it the Moon Landing anniversary has given us (me) the ideal vehicle for this year's event (leaving myself open there for something next year).
This year we'll be constructing rockets, now given the chances of actually getting to the moon are slim we'll concentrate on the unmanned manually (rather than chemically) fired versions. For reasons of my nerves and the Health & Safety executive I'll be providing the materials and we won't be launching anything too exciting in a public place but trust me it will be fun, interactive and we'll have fun rockets popping off all over the place.
I'm not entirely sure how we'll go about judging 'best flight' but I've got until July to work out something suitable! As ever though with my events there will be prizes :-)
