This geocache is hidden in one of the best artefacts from the Didcot-Newbury-Southampton Line (DNSL) It was built 1885- closed 1964 . Imagine how the Victorian engineers built this with just basic wooden scaffolding with minimum 'health and safety'! This railway was part of the 'railway wars' of the 19th C as rival companies competed for goods and passenger traffic. The Watercress Way trail between Kings Worthy and Worthy Down Halt passes underneath the bridges, heading west before climbing up onto the old track bed by either a path used by horses and cyclists just to the south side of the bridges, or some steps to the north. The trail is just over 26 miles long, and uses as much of two old railway tracks as possible ( The DNSL here and the Mid-Hants Line nicknamed The Watercress Line between Alresford - KingsWorthy) . The railways are linked by historic routes: footpaths, bridleways and some road sections. The Sutton -Scotney to Alresford link via Micheldever woods follows the Oxdrove and other drove links, vital for livestock movements before railways took over transportation. Record the letter inside and once all 26 official Watercress Way caches are found decipher the phrase!
