Geocache Description:

Welcome to GCG179’s first ever series. This series is called the Nursery Rhythms Walk. It is a favourite local walk of ours through the villages of Overseal, Acresford and Netherseal. It was originally known as the “10,000 step walk” and was used by us to get in our steps after a hard day at work or studying. The geocache series walk is around 4.1 miles and will takr around 1.5-2 hours. The inspiration for the theme of this walk comes from our little geokid, who loves to sing some nursery rhythms to keep her occupied while we walk.

The walk begins from the free, public car park in Overseal situated next to the primary school. This car park can become busy around school run time, but there is also plenty of street parking in the area. Turn right out the car park and then take the first public footpath on the right to begin the series. The first cache is just along this path.

Overseal is located in South Derbyshire, it was transferred to Derbyshire from Leicestershire in 1897 and is in the heart of the National Forest. Outside the school, you will see a winding wheel from Donisthorpe Colliery, which was the last deep mine in South Derbyshire, closing in 1991 and now turned into a woodland park.

To reach number 2, carry on along this alley as it opens out into beautiful fields with some lovely views.
