Geocache Description:

From this spot you can get a great view of the Wairakei   Geo thermal Power station and learn a little about it as well as the legend of Ngatoro-i-rangi. . This station, commissioned in 1958 was the first in the world to use geothermal steam and water for electricity generation and is a tribute to the ground breaking forward thinking engineering expertise of the New Zealand Electricity Department as it was known then. It paved the way for the construction of quite a number of other geothermal power stations that provide more than 15% of New Zealand’s electricity supply. Many of these geothermal power stations are not far away.

This cache can be accessed easily by car with a carpark close by or from the Mountain Bike Trail between  the  Wairakei Hotel and  the Aratiatia rapids. You will need to bring your own pen or pencil.
