Geocache Description:

This series highlights locations in Skagit County. These communities were formed in the early 1870's remaining up until the 1920's. Many of the names still appear on maps. A few have buildings remaining in use today. These communities and many others can be found on https:/www.skagitcounty.net/Maps/iMap/?mapjs=hist

The first recorded stake placed in Pleasant Ridge was in 1866. Access was primarily by boat as most the valley was a salty marsh that extended almost to the Skagit River. The first school began in July 1872 at the Albert Leamer home and the teacher was Albert's daughter Ida who was only 15. This school building was opened in 1898 until closing in 1932.

The school is owned by the Pleasant Ridge Cemetary District. The District is raising funds to restore the building to its former codition. The Cemerary, located further up the hill is the oldest in Skagit County.

Permission was granted to place the cache in this location by members of the District board.

NOTE: Recent maintenance removed the fence and fence post the original cache was at. The new cache is smaller and about 12 feet away in the darkness. Please remain away from the building itself.
