This is a virtual cache only since it is located within the Great Smokey Mts. National Park and leaving a cache is not allowed.
This is a virtual cache only. Leaving a cache within National Parks is not allowed at this time due to Federal regulations. I will not give too much away just allow for at least a half day hike, more if your not in good physical condition. 6 miles round trip with the first half being mostly uphill. Cache is located at approx. 6000 feet elevation. To prove that you have been there just answer this simple question: How many vertical support post are there at the front of the shelter. Enjoy the view and please leave no trace. BTW it is also located on the Appalachian trail. Edit: Recently visited this cache after 11 years and some things have changed. The trees are taller and the view isn't quite as spectacular but still great. The old fire pit out front is gone and the windows in the shelter have changed. So I changed the question about this shelter.
