I was in the area to replace the cache at the nearby Reed Cemetery, when I needed a spot to turn around and get re-oriented, and here I found this little rest stop tucked away in semi-obscurity.
You know, back in MY day, you had these kinds of pull-overs scattered all over the place. Because gas mileage was poor, lots of cars didn't have A/C, there was only AM and FM and no USB ports and satellite radio and seatback video screens or smarty phones, gas stations only had gas and maybe a vending machine with Fanta in glass bottles, there were many fewer fast food outlets, and convenience stores barely existed. So you were glad to be able to park at such a place, stretch your legs, get some fresh air, let your screaming kids run around, and maybe grill up some burgers on your way to go visit your Uncle Albert with still another 200 miles to go.
Those were the days.
