Geocache Description:

RENTON'S CASCADE VISTA NEIGHBORHOOD

This cache is part of the Valley Cities GeoTour 2019. If you are participating in the GeoTour, be sure to record each cache's code word or punch in your series passport to verify your visit. There are 40 caches placed throughout the four cities to take you to a variety of interesting or beautiful locations, and provide you with fun and informative geocaching experiences.

Welcome to the Cascade Vista neighborhood in South East Renton located on Benson Hill. The Cascade Vista Neighborhood as well as other locations on Benson Hill, was known in Renton's early days for coal mining. In fact. a few of the houses in this neighborhood sit very near old coal mines. You wont find any remnants of the coal mining activities in this neighborhood. By the early 1960's this area was platted for the Cascade Vista development. Any coal mining remnants were long removed 50 plus years ago. Today, you have a well established neighborhood with new track homes being built on the last of the unused land in the area.

By January 2008, this area  of unincorporated King County became part of the City of Renton via the annexation process. In the end, it was a good deal for the neighborhood as a nearby park that was not properly being maintained by the county, became a Renton City park in which the city has done wonders in cleaning up the park an maintaining it. The city does a much better job of servicing the neighborhood overall, much better than the county ever did.

This cache is on private property. The property owner has given  approval for this cache to be on the property. The owner asks that cachers please do not try to find this one after dark. No need to go beyond the gate. Its definitely where you think it is.

Have fun!
