Currently, this site is home to Whitewater Valley Railroad's Grand Central Station. Originally, there was a New York Central freight station on this location. The track was built on the towpath of the old Whitewater Canal, which was built between 1836 and 1847. The railroad track was first placed between 1863-1867.
Head on inside (hours are 9 am - 5 pm daily, winter hours vary) to take a look at some artifacts from the by-gone era when steam engines careened down the valley at 45 mph on their way to and from Cincinnati. You can take day trips on the train to Metamora, Indiana to view a section of the Whitewater Canal that has been restored, ride a train to dinner, or participate in one of the many events such as The Polar Express.
The Whitewater Valley Railroad is a 501c3 non profit operating railroad museum dedicated to the preservation of a historic branch line railroad, to the restoration of railroad equipment, and to the conduct of educational railroad programs.
