Geocache Description:

---This cache is part of the Fayette County Bicentennial GeoTour---

The Faikert Store was originally opened on the west side of the road in the 1870s. In 1928, the store was moved to the Grange building across the road. the first floor was the general store and the second floor was used for meetings, dances, debates, and other social and literary activities. This location was also quite busy with rail traffic in the late 1800s. There was a siding, stockyards, and saw mill on the east side of the tracks. You can still see the road that led there on the south side of the store, although the river has now claimed much of that land. Today, there is a USGS river monitoring station (which also functions as a popular canoe launch).
