Geocache Description:

This cache forms part of a series of multi-caches that get you to visit and see the community artwork that has been applied to some roadside network infrastructure cabinets. The very first was a traditional called Fantail (now archived due to placement rules) and others have all been multi-caches following the same basic structure.

Click on the banner above or use the sidebar bookmark to see others in this series.

Layout of the multi-cache

Like all in the series this multi-cache comprises virtual stages and a physical final. This one only has 2 virtual waypoints as I am only aware of two cabinets in Churton Park that have received the artwork treatment. You can visit them in any order you like to collect the information you will need to compute the location of the final.

Note that no physical caches are placed on or near the cabinets - you only need to look at them to gather the information you need.

The virtual way points

When asked for the "cabinet code" it refers to the one or two letters at the upper left corner of the cabinet underneath the "JV" prefix. Convert to a number by its position in the alphabet (e.g. K=11).

WP1 S41°12.111 E174°48.509 A = First letter in the cabinet code after the JV prefix
B = Second letter in the cabinet code after the JV prefix
C = Number of claws (pointy toes) visible
WP2 S41°12.327 E174°48.253 D = First letter in the cabinet code after the JV prefix
E = Second letter in the cabinet code after the JV prefix
F = Number of round bubbles (the lower group) to the right of the talon
Bonus S41°12.721 E174°48.475 Not required but worth a visit
Discovered after cache placed

The checksum for A+B+C+D+E+F=42.

The final location

S41 12.(F) (E-D)/2 (A+B)/3 E174 48.(A) (C) (C+F)

It is not too far from WP2 but other nearby caches force it be further than ideal. The location may seem a little random but it's more pleasant than options considered near WP1.

Please make sure the cache is properly covered when returning it.
