This cache is placed in one of the most beautiful spots for a picnic, at the top of the Doone Valley.
The Doone Valley is so named after the R.D. Blackmore’s novel “Lorna Doone” which was first published in 1869.
The journey of the A39 down the Doone Valley it is a picturesque drive, ride or walk. The lane is very a narrow single track, with hairpin corners and very narrow bridges, fords and loads of wildlife. The road takes you from the top of the moors above Porlock though to Hillsford Bridge following the East Lyn River, passing through the villages in R.D. Blackmore’s novel, Oare, Malmsmead and Brendon.
You can park within 15ft of the cache but you will need to get out of your car. The cache is a 35mm film canister, please ensure it is replaced in the same location once it has been recovered. This area is well off the beaten track but can be very popular in the summer months.
Please take care when driving through the narrow bridges as the already have many shades of car paint on the edge stones. For a map of the location chick here.
