Did you know.........in the middle 1700's the Peninsular Blockhouses were built to ptotect the settlers from attack from the Mi'kmaq who were allied with the french. The North Blockhouse was located nearly three miles by road from the heart of Halifax. That spot was was just inside the gate of the Fairview cemetry The North Blockhouse had a grim repute. In the early days one garrison of careless red coats, a non commisioned officer and about five privates were engaged in drinking and card playing when they were slain by several mi'kmac. The site was closed around 1760 and all evidence of the blockhouse disappeared when a cemetry was graded and opened in 1894--but up to that time the lines of the pickets and the remains of the blockhouse foundation and well were visible Titanic grave site is also in this cemetery.
