Geocache Description:

The cache is in William Valentine Memorial Park located along the Spicket River.

Former Conservation Commission member William Valentine was an avid outdoorsman who loved to canoe and kayak. He passed away in March, 2007 at the age of 59.

Were is not for the dozens of hours of work by then 17-year old Brian Picarillo, fellow Boy Scouts of Troop 267 and other volunteers, the park would not have become a reality.

Picarillo took on the endeavor as his Eagle Scout project. The site was just an empty lot of land owned by the town of Salem. Picarillo sought donations and organized a car wash to raise the funds for the project. Then Picarillo and the Scouts of Troop 267 went to work, turning the unused town-owned property into a beautifully landscaped park. They brought in picnic tables, put up a sign, installed a bench with Valentine's name on it, and created a kiosk with details about Valentine and watershed conservation.

The park was dedicated September 29, 2012.

Source: The Eagle-Tribune articles dated September 19, 2012 and October 5, 2012.

The container is a length of PVC pipe painted black. There is not much room in it for anything other than the log and a pen.

Please do not over-tighten the screw cap lest it be difficult for others to open.

Use stealth when retrieving and replacing the cache. For the FTF there is a glass FTF bead.
