Geocache Description:

A cache hidden near a small abandoned ford on a walkable road with a footbridge so it can be approached from more than one direction.

Another forgotten place so near to civilisation. This was once where one of the many thoroughfares for the area crossed the Gwili river. Some roads flourished into the main road network we have today, others fell into disuse.

Cache has been upgraded from a large micro to a small hide, in a not that untypical hiding place and contains a pencil. Note the cache has gone missing a couple of times, so it would be best not to leave Trackables here.

Be warned - although it appears on a map that you can drive almost to the location of the cache, there's very little turning space near the ford and once past the final house's gate, the road gets decidedly sketchy!

And besides being listed as a ford, I don't think anything other than farm vehicles or 4x4 enthusiast vehicles are now capable of crossing there (4x4 tyre tracks proved Eclectic Penguin correct when placing that evening) - however, the road is officially listed as a dead end from both directions. My advice - park near the trail-head coordinates provided and treat this as a short (but steep) walk.

Two words of warning - some local motorcyclists use the route as a shortcut, despite the nearby footbridge only being a public footpath. EP walked the route regularly and nearly got run over by near-silently speeding MTB riders a few years ago!

While some would consider this a cache-and-dash - walking from the recommended parking location is easily a 20-30 minute round trip - especially back from the cache as it's a relatively steep hill! The approach from the south west is much more gentle and you can trade the elevation shyness by having to to park roadside without inconveniencing residents.
