Podniesiony z ruiny wielkim kosztem przez prywatnego właściciela, zamek w Rynie jest dziś przede wszystkim centrum hotelarskim, konferencyjnym i rekreacyjnym. Pod tym względem to z pewnością perełka Warmii i Mazur, ale o zwykłych turystach także tam nie zapomniano. Warownię można zwiedzać z kompetentnym przewodnikiem. Wnętrza nie każdego mogą zachwycić, ale wg mnie są ciekawe. Nie widać kiczu, a'la zamek Gargamela (poza bramą wejściową). Szczególne wrażenie robi dziedziniec, co prawda sztucznie zadaszony, ale pomysłowo stylizowany na wielką salę rycerską. Niezwykle prezentuje się też basen w średniowiecznych murach, ale za skosztowanie tej przyjemności trzeba słono płacić. Poza tym do zobaczenia jest spory odcinek korytarzy i kilka gotyckich komnat. Podoba mi się, że właściciel starał się wykorzystywać oryginalne elementy zamku (które ktoś inny mógłby wyrzucić razem z gruzem) i adaptować je do odrestaurowanego obiektu, np. ze średniowiecznych drewnianych belek wykonano ciekawe rzeźby i portale.
Warownię zbudowali Krzyżacy w 1376 roku. W miejscu tym stała drewniana strażnica, zniszczona przez Litwinów, a wcześniej może także gród. Celem budowy murowanego zamku było wzmocnienie linii obronnej do walki z Litwinami, ale co ciekawe to właśnie tutaj schroniła się małżonka litewskiego księcia Witolda - księżna Anna podczas walk dynastycznych w tym kraju. Od 1394 do 1525 roku istniała komturia ryńska (z przerwą w latach 1422-67) ), a jednym z komturów był Fryderyk von Wallenrode, brat Wielkiego Mistrza Konrada, którego nazwisko wykorzystał Adam Mickiewicz w swej powieści. Od I poł. XVII wieku zamek pełnił funkcję myśliwskiej rezydencji książąt pruskich, a rezydował w nim łowczy książęcy (administrator lasów). Pierwotny wygląd zamku był inny niż obecnie. Składał się z dwóch skrzydeł połączonych w kształt litery L. Z pozostałych stron czworobok domknięty był murem kurtynowym z wieżą od zachodu. Początkowo miał tylko dwie kondygnacje, potem był stopniowo rozbudowywany. W XV wieku stał się typową warownią krzyżacką, będącą siedzibą komtura i podległego mu konwentu złożonego z braci zakonnych. Posiadał kaplicę i własne zaplecze gospodarcze. Poważna rozbudowa o dwa kolejne skrzydła nastąpiła w XVII wieku. Miała ona na celu zapewnić wygodę podczas książęcych polowań. Obecnie zamek ma również 4 skrzydła, odpowiednio nazwane: Komturskie, Rycerskie, Myśliwskie, Więzienne. Każdemu nadano inny wygląd i charakter.

The purpose of the construction of a brick castle was to strengthen the defensive line to fight with the Lithuanians, but what's interesting here is the spouse of the Lithuanian prince Witold - duchess Anna - during the dynastic fights in this country. From 1394 to 1525, there was the Rynets Commandery (with a break from 1422-67)), and one of the committees was Frederick von Wallenrode, the brother of Grand Master Konrad, whose name Adam Mickiewicz used in his novel. From the first half In the 17th century, the castle served as a hunting lodge for the Prussian princes, and the princely hunter (administrator of forests) resided there. In 1667, during the Swedish Deluge, Ryn and the castle burnt allies with the Poles, Tatars. At the end of the 18th century, the Prussians sold the castle and until 1853 it was owned by a number of private people. Then the Prussian government bought him back and created a prison. In 1881 a great fire of the building took place, which was rebuilt only 30 years later. After the Second World War there was a Town Hall, a Cultural Center, a library and a museum. The buildings were not properly renovated and fell into disrepair until a private investor took over them at the beginning of the 21st century and created a hotel and conference center.
The original appearance of the castle was different than it is today. It consisted of two wings joined in the shape of the letter L. From the other sides the quadrangle was closed with a curtain wall with a tower from the west. Initially, it had only two floors, then it was gradually expanded. In the fifteenth century, it became a typical Teutonic stronghold, which was the headquarters of the commander and a congregation of religious brothers subordinate to it. He had a chapel and his own economic base. A serious expansion of two more wings took place in the seventeenth century. It was intended to provide comfort during prince hunting. Currently, the castle also has 4 wings, respectively named: Commander, Knight, Hunting, and Prison. Each has a different look and character.
