Im calling this one Devonport Library as the building behind this cache used to be a library when CO was a child, at a young age I can remember being dropped off for story time and picked up an hour later. It was a Library from the early 1970’s till 1983.
In 1983 the library moved to 25 Fenton Way. I have many memories spent studying at that library with my late father.
In 2018 the Library was moved to the new Paranaple Centre, one day we will get used to the current new lay out of the Library on 2 levels!
This building was built in 1904 designed and constructed by Stephen Priest Senior and Stephen Priest Junior for The Baptist Church. In 1969 the church moved to other premises.
In the mid 1980’s it became the designated site for the Devonport regional art Gallery, In 2004 the gallery underwent a major refurbishment. In 2018 the building was left empty after the Gallery was moved into market square.
What will become of such a beautiful building?
