This earthcache will take you to a pretty secret garden in Savyon. It is located in Gil's memorial garden, where i also placed a traditional cache.
Posted coordinates are at the entrance to the garden. Right in the middle of the garden, there is a big rock, which is the central point of this garden.
This will also be the subject of our earthcache.
First, we will mention three rocks that can be found in Israel: Granite / Basalt / Limestone (left to right)
Granite - A felsic intrusive igneous rock, which is formed when magma crystallizes in the crust of the earth underground, and is usually in white pink or grey color. In israel Granite rocks are found only in the south near Eilat.
Basalt - is a mafic extrusive igneous rock formed from the rapid cooling of magnesium-rich and iron-rich lava, and is usually in grey to black color. In israel basalt rocks are found in the north in the eastern Galilee and Golan Heights.
Limestone - A carbonate sedimentary rock that is usually made of skeletal remains of marine life. Color is white. Limestone is the most common rock in israel and can be found pretty much anywhere.
Colors of rocks are also changed due to erosion, such as from oxidation, water and plants.
In order to log a find, you will need to prove visitation as well as some knowledge of this rock.
1. Estimate the measurements of the rock,height and width?
2. What type of rock is it? Granite, Basalt, or limestone?
3. What types of erosion will affect the rock over time, from what you see?
4. Is the rock local, or was brought from another part of Israel? If so, from where?
