This location was begging for a Geocache, especially after the fun trip that Garcia2 and I had all the way to the Southern Terminus of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail. We passed this spot on our way from I-10 down to Hachita and decided we'd establish this cache on our way home. There is room to pull off the side of the road, but be careful of the traffic on this road.
The Continental Divide is a significant geographic feature in North America and its significance is tied to the direction rainfall flows from this point. On the east side of the Continental Divide, rainfall flows towards the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, while on the west side of the Continental Dived, rainfall flows towards the Pacific Ocean.
After you log this Geocache, we recommend traveling south to Hachita (where there are a couple more Geocaches), and continue south along Highway 81, to another geocache right along the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail.
