Challenge Caches
This is a challenge cache. In additional to signing the log book you must also fulfill the challenge before logging a find online. You may sign the logbook before completing the challenge but please don't claim a find online until you qualify. A challenge checker which you can use to see if you qualify is below. Anyone claiming a find who does not meet the criteria will have their log deleted without notice.
The cache is at the listed coordinates.
This Challenge
This challenge is designed to provide you with an incentive to get you out and about in the hills and mountains that County Down has in abundence. It will require you to find caches whose listed coordinates are at 400m or above. You will need to find enough of them so that the total elevation is greater than 15,000m.
At the time of publication there are more than 118 caches that qualify and these total over 60,000m so there are plenty to choose from.
A checker is included below to let you check how you're getting on.
The Rules
All cache finds have to be in the County of Down and the listed coordinates have to be at an elevation of 400m or more.
The total elevation of all qualifying finds must be greater than 15,000m
All caches listed on geocaching.com count.
All cache types count (that know where they are - so sorry lab caches are ignorant of this).
Previous finds count.
The Cache
The part of the Mournes that this hike will take you is simply stunning, at over 500m its no walk in the park, but on a nice day wow. There are various parking points, I parked at Deers Meadow and just followed the wall.
