Leaves on the Lime
1000-1130
Wednesday 29th May 2019
Hi guys! We’ve been invited back by the Friends of Hatch Grange to assist with removing the epicormic growth at the base of the lime trees in the park.
‘Epicormic’ was a new word for me, so to aid clarification: an epicormic shoot is a shoot growing from an epicormic bud, which lies underneath the bark of a trunk, stem or branch of a plant. Epicormic buds lie dormant beneath the bark with their growth suppressed by hormones from active shoots higher up the tree. Under certain conditions, they develop into active shoots.
Please indicate your ‘will attend’ so we have an idea of numbers. At 1000hrs we will be given instructions and a Health & Safety brief by Rick and Steve from the Friends of Hatch Grange before the exercise begins.
I’m sorry this CITO is on a weekday morning, but the organisation is not able to host us at weekends.
Parking
There is free parking at the Parish Centre car park, at the published co-ordinates.) There is also free parking for 2 hours across the road in the supermarket car park. The CITO will last for 90 minutes, so if you use the supermarket car park please be careful of the time - no more than 90 minutes!
Where
Meet in the car park at the Parish Centre (as per given CITO coordinates) or find us at the Avenue of Limes in the park! (I've marked all these places as waypoints.) Any problems, please feel free to message me through the geocaching message centre.
How
Rick and Steve from the Friends of Hatch Grange will be there providing guidance and tools. Please wear appropriate clothing, sensible footwear and your own gloves if you prefer. All other equipment will be provided. The event will proceed in any weather unless there are high winds or storms. There will be appropriate tasks for almost any ability level.
Health and Safety
All health and safety rules apply. Children will need supervision and pets kept under control.
