Geocache Description:

The Clay Family

The posted coordinates will bring you to the gravesite of Muhammad Ali's parents.  Ali's father was Cassius Marcellus Clay Sr., who was named in honor of the 19th-century Republican politician and staunch abolitionist, Cassius Marcellus Clay, also from the state of Kentucky.  Cassius Clay Sr. was a sign painter and musician.  He played the piano and wrote his own music.

In 1933, Cassius Sr. married Odessa Grady, also from Kentucky.  They moved into a home in west Louisville where they raised Ali.  Ali was closer to his mother than his father, and credited her with inspiring him to become The Greatest.  Said Ali of his mother ... "And my mother, I'll tell you what I've told people for a long time. She's a sweet, fat, wonderful woman, who loves to cook, eat, make clothes, and be with family. She doesn't drink, smoke, meddle in other people's business, or bother anyone, and there's no one who's been better to me my whole life."
