9 Usual Suspects - Explore the Slate Trail Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

9 Usual Suspects: A new venue for us which worked very well so we will be back and maybe even do a repeat event as the pint at Waunfawr was a great way to end a walk. Oh nearly forgot the cooked breakfast is superb and at only £4.50 fantastic value.

Slate Trail

Friday 10th November 2017 saw the official opening of the Snowdonia Slate Trail. The 83 mile trail takes you on a journey back through time when Snowdonia was the centre of the slate industry. The trail visits some of the less-frequented but beautiful areas of Snowdonia, passing through a variety of landscapes all contributing to the history of the quarrying and mining industries.

This event is the first of a series of events that will be following the Slate Trail. We will be meeting at Canolfan Y Fron, a community owned and run centre, housed in the former village school. The small village of Y Fron is located in the middle of a rugged upland common in Snowdonia, just 6 miles south of Caernarfon. Originally Y Fron was founded by slate quarry workers with most of the buildings being built as cheaply as possible of ‘waste’ slate and local stone. Today the village is surrounded by the remnants of its past with redundant quarries, inclines, tram ways, huge spoil heaps, slate walls and fences.

When: Sunday 26th May 2019

Where: Cafe, Canolfan Y Fron, Y Fron, Gwynedd, United Kingdom, LL54 7BB

Time: 10.30-11.00am

After the event we invite all attendees to join us on approximately a 4 mile walk following the Slate Trail to Waunfawr. The terrain for the walk varies from rough paths to country lanes, some areas are wet whatever the weather so please wear appropriate footwear.

Llwybr Llechi

Ar Dydd Gwener 10 Tachwedd 2017 agorwyd Llwybr Llechi Eryri yn swyddogol. Mae'r llwybr 83 milltir yn mynd â chi ar daith yn ôl drwy amser pan oedd Eryri yn ganolbwynt i'r diwydiant llechi. Mae'r llwybr yn ymweld â rhai o'r ardaloedd llai poblogaidd ond hardd yn Eryri, gan fynd trwy amrywiaeth o dirluniau i gyd yn cyfrannu at hanes y diwydiannau chwarela a mwyngloddio.

Y digwyddiad hwn yw'r cyntaf mewn cyfres o ddigwyddiadau a fydd yn dilyn y Llwybr Llechi. Byddwn yn cyfarfod yng Nghanolfan y Fron, canolfan sydd yn cael ei rhedeg ac yn eiddo i'r gymuned, yn yr hen ysgol. Mae pentref bach Y Fron wedi'i leoli yng nghanol ucheldir garw sy'n gyffredin yn Eryri, dim ond 6 milltir i'r de o Gaernarfon. Sefydlwyd Y Fron yn wreiddiol gan chwarelwyr llechi gyda'r rhan fwyaf o'r adeiladau'n cael eu hadeiladu mor rhad â phosibl o lechi ‘gwastraff’ a charreg leol. Heddiw mae'r pentref wedi ei amgylchynu gan weddillion ei orffennol gyda chwareli, llethrau, ffyrdd tramiau, tomenni rwbel enfawr, waliau llechi a ffensys.

Pryd: Dydd Sul 26ain Mai 2019

Ble: Caffi, Canolfan Y Fron, Y Fron, Gwynedd, Y Deyrnas Unedig, LL54 7BB

Amser: 10.30-11.00am

Ar ôl y digwyddiad rydym yn gwahodd pawb sy'n bresennol i ymuno â ni ar daith gerdded tua 4 milltir gan ddilyn y Llwybr Llechi i Waunfawr. Mae'r tirwedd ar gyfer y daith gerdded yn amrywio o lwybrau garw i lonydd gwledig, mae rhai ardaloedd yn wlyb beth bynnag fo'r tywydd felly cofiwch wisgo esgidiau addas.
