Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the Valley Cities GeoTour 2019. If you are participating in the GeoTour, be sure to record each cache's code word or punch in your series passport to verify your visit. There are 40 caches placed throughout the four cities to take you to a variety of interesting or beautiful locations, and provide you with fun and informative geocaching experiences.

Shaughnessy Park was named for former Auburn Mayor James N. Shaughnessy who served from 1960 - 1964.  As a member of a pioneer family and an avid historian, Mayor Shaughnessy was one of the founders of theWhite River Historical Society.  This park was dedicated in 1973 and is located in an attractive setting with mature Douglas Firs near a quiet residential street. Several recreational courts are located close to the street and a wonderful play structure was recently added to provide fun for the children, along with some long-time swings.  There's even an open play field with a backstop in a corner of the park for those picnics that turn into a softball game.  The only entry to the park is from the front using the parking coordinates provided.  Your car's GPS may try to lead you to the back of the park, but there is no way to enter the park from that fenced off area and a very steep embankment.

2019 is the first year of a formal GeoTour for the expanded geocaching adventure in the cities of Auburn, Kent, Renton & Maple Valley, Washington.  Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation, auburntourism.com, visitkent.com, the Port of Seattle and the WSGA are stakeholders in this GeoTour.  There are 10 caches placed in each city.  The geocaches highlight some scenic outdoor area, park, trail, or general area of interest in these four cities.  We hope you enjoy visiting the area, learning about its natural beauty and interesting outdoor areas.  You can visit the website for information about lodging discounts, restaurant, brewery and other discounts that are available while you are visiting our area, Valley Cities GeoTour .
