El Museo Arqueológico de Córdoba no tendrá sede definitiva hasta 1960, por lo que no ha permanecido estable en una misma sede a lo largo de su historia, y ha visto cómo sus fondos eran trasladados de un edificio a otro de la ciudad. Esto se debió principalmente al constante crecimiento de los mismos y la consecuente necesidad de un espacio físico que se adecuase como sede.
En 1942 el Estado adquirió el Palacio de los Páez de Castillejo, pero hubieron de pasar bastantes años para que, bajo la dirección de Ana María Vicent Zaragoza (1959-1987) el Museo se instalara definitivamente en dicho palacio donde se inauguró, la planta baja en 1961 y la alta en 1962. Son años de un incremento considerable de los fondos conservados tanto en cantidad como en calidad, la creación del servicio de investigación de la Arqueología Urbana de Córdoba, el nacimiento de la biblioteca especializada en arqueología y la edición de una revista científica: Corduba Archaeologica.
Con el paso de los años tanto el edificio con la propuesta museográfica fueron necesitando una buena actualización. En 1998 se convocó un concurso de ideas para la construcción de un edificio de nueva planta destinado a la ampliación del Museo, resultando vencedor el proyecto defendido por el equipo del arquitecto Pau Soler Serratosa. La construcción del nuevo edificio comenzó en enero de 2001 y tras diversos avatares las obras finalizaron en el año 2009. El 31 de enero de 2011 se inauguraron las instalaciones y la renovada propuesta museográfica que permite el nuevo edificio, incluyendo el yacimiento arqueológico del teatro romano.

The Archaeological Museum of Córdoba will not have a definitive seat until 1960, so it has not remained stable in the same headquarters throughout its history, and has seen how its funds were transferred from one building to another in the city. This was mainly due to their constant growth and the consequent need for a physical space that was adapted as a venue.
In 1942 the State acquired the Palace of the Páez de Castillejo, but it had to be enough years for the Museum to be permanently installed in the palace where it was inaugurated, the ground floor, under the direction of Ana María Vicent Zaragoza (1959-1987) in 1961 and the discharge in 1962. These are years of a considerable increase in the funds conserved both in quantity and quality, the creation of the research service of the Urban Archeology of Córdoba, the birth of the library specialized in archeology and the edition of a scientific journal: Corduba Archaeologica.
Over the years both the building and the museum proposal were in need of a good update. In 1998, a contest of ideas was convened for the construction of a new building for the extension of the Museum, the project defended by the team of architect Pau Soler Serratosa being the winner. The construction of the new building began in January 2001 and after several avatars the works were completed in 2009. On January 31, 2011 the facilities were inaugurated and the renewed museum proposal that allows the new building, including the archaeological site of the theater Roman.
