Geocache Description:


This Cache is placed as part of the 2019 Taconic Region Geocache Challenge.  The NYS Parks Saratoga - Capital region and the Central region will be hosting a similar challenge.  Find 45 challenge caches in the Taconic Region and stamp your passport to earn a trackable geo-coin.  Ten caches found in the Sara-Cap and/or Central region's Challenges can be used toward the Taconic Challenge. 

This cache contains a unique stamp which must stay with the cache. Use this stamp to mark your passport. This stamp is NOT a trade item. Some of the items in the cache are park souvenirs and do not need to be replaced with a trade item. There is no fee to enter this park. Be sure to check each park or site’s unique web page for possible trail maps and other facility specific information. www.parks.ny.gov

American Founding Father John Jay spent his boyhood here, on a farm with views reaching from the Boston Post Road to Long Island Sound. Later, the property passed on to Jay’s older son, Peter Augustus Jay. The farmhouse where John Jay grew up was razed by Peter Augustus in 1836, and replaced in 1838 by the Greek Revival mansion that dominates the site today.

The parking coordinates shown below are for the entrance drive. Follow the road to the main parking lot. Walk to the southeast corner of the lot and step over a pile of stones to find the path to this cache. (You also can access this cache from the Marshlands Conservancy.)

Please do not remove the challenge stamp from the cache! It is not swag.
