Geocache Description:

The Pettus Hill Preserve was bequeathed to the Waterman Conservation Education Center by Charles Pettus, a retired IBM Physicists and Engineer. The property is to be kept "forever wild" for the education and enjoyment of the community. Around 1990, Mr. Pettus attempted to make his property, "the highest point in Broome County" by constructing a "pyramid" of soil and stone. Although his efforts fell short, the Pettus Pyramid remains as a monument to his generosity, and Charles Pettus rests in peace at the base of the structure. This is the first cache in a series throughout the park. Each cache was created by a youth member or leader of the 4-H Geospatial Club. Enjoy the beauties of this wild park while satisfying your geocaching urges. Thank-you to the land owners for asking our group to place these caches.
