We came across Cheswick Sands whilst scoping out the nearby EarthCache at Goswick, and have been back at least once a week ever since. The beach is a hidden gem which doesn't seem to feature in any tourist guides and it isn't signposted from anywhere - you just have to know that it's there! Hopefully this cache will put this great location on other people's radars.
Cheswick Sands offers miles of sandy beach with stunning views north to Berwick and the Scottish Borders and south to Holy Island and Bamburgh. The beach connects with Cocklawburn Beach to the north and Goswick Sands to the south, and is great for geohounds.
I've been toying with the idea of placing a geocache here for ages, but the whole site is within either an SSSI or NNR and I thought it unlikely that I'd get permission to hide one. After months of poring over the MAGIC map, and subsequent visits to recce out the suitability of sites outside of the designated areas, I've abandoned my initial plans and resorted to a micro in the car park. Not an ideal solution, but hopefully it'll still entice a few fellow geocachers to come and explore this magnificent beach!
The parking area can be accessed from either of the two Cheswick/Goswick turn-offs from the A1. Please be aware of muggles during busy times and make sure to replace the cache out of sight.
