The place you seek is quiet and peaceful. A little garden on the corner of the Mount Prospect Public Library to take a break and enjoy. On a summer day you might see someone reading a book on one of the benches, or maybe viewing the famous Peace sculpture. Designed by Erik Blome, the beautiful birds in flight around the globe atop a stack of books, reflects the memorial's philosophy in multiple languages, Peace. Peace... Visitors will enjoy the little walk around reading the signs dedicated to past employees and Elizabeth J. Clough, Longtime reader and library supporter who sponsored the garden. However, there is a lesser-known fact about this place. It is protected. PROTECTED by something un-human. Hiding in the trees… BEWARE!
The Mount Prospect Public Library started in 1929 in the heart of downtown through the efforts of the Mount Prospect Woman’s Club. In 1975, the Library purchased the old Central School property and built the current building on the corner of Central and Emerson Street where this cache sits today. Today the Library continued its usual services like research help, storytime, summer reading, and educational programming, and features in-library wireless access and downloadable ebooks, computer classes to help patrons navigate the changing electronic world, and Librarians are available for one-on-one reference help. 2009 marked the first time annual circulation hit one million. There are many programs and fun activities sponsored by the library and it is a staple of activity for young and old.
