Celebrating 10 Years of Geocaching
with Calypso62

Calypso62 & Smurfyguy at Cache #1 - Wirrabarra Waste
On the 18th June, 2009, ten years ago, I signed up as a basic member and found my first ever geocache. How very excited I was! Little did I know then what an amazing adventure this wonderful activity would take me on!!!!
My first cache find was a small Sistema box located near a sewage treatment works close to home (now archived). It wasn't the most pleasant of locations but that didn't matter. The fact that I found this hidden box after learning how to use a small hand-held GPS that I had been given by a friend, was all that mattered! Equally as exciting was that I shared this experience with my Geoson, Smurfyguy. When we found the cointainer, we were like two kids in a lolly shop. Of course, after finding the first geocache, we had to find a second one, then a third..... a fourth.... a fifth..... we were hooked and the rest is, as they say, history!
A most memorable geo-adventure was the day I found my most northerly geocache inside the Arctic Circle in Alaska back in 2012. We had flown in from Fairbanks to Coldfoot, a truck stopver on the Dalton Highway highlighted by the Ice Road Truckers TV program. I didn't think it was going to be possible for me to find a geocache this day but luckily, the geo-gods smiled on me and a find was made. Coldfoot Camp Cache

Coldfoot, Alaska
One of the most fantastic aspects of the game is all the wonderful people I have met, both near and far. So many of these crazy people I now call great friends. I've even adopted a number of GeoDaughters!!

Galston Valley Railway Event
So far, I've found geocaches in 34 countries. I've seen so many fascinating places. The experiences I've enjoyed as well as the history and knowledge I've gained has been amazing!

Zermatt, Switzerland
One part of geocaching I've really enjoyed is the creation of my own caches for people to find. My aim is always to try and make the geocaching experience for the finder one that they will both enjoy and remember for quite a while. Judging from many of the logs I receive, I think I'm achieving that aim.
So, to help me celebrate this milestone, I invite all geocachers to come along and regale us with stories of your geocaching adventures, swap hints on how to solve some puzzle caches, swap and discover trackables and enjoy a meal if you wish. A logbook will be available for you to sign.
