Ingrid Jonker, was a South African poet. While she wrote in Afrikaans, her poems have been widely translated into other languages. On 19 July 1965, during the night, Ingrid Jonker filled her pockets with rocks and walked into the sea at this iconic beach. She would not been seen alive again.
