J'ai lu que marcher était bon pour nous et que nous devrions Marche4vie! Cette courte partie du sentier n’est pas très intéressante MAIS notre maison de Fairbairn est extrêmement intéressante! Saviez-vous qu'il a été déplacé deux fois? La cache se trouve près d'un épicéa heureux et en bonne santé.
Historique de la maison En tant qu’une des plus anciennes habitations, cette maison abritait William Fairbairn. Celui-ci émigrait à Wakefield en 1834 et dès 1838, érigeait le premier moulin à provende, près de la rivière La Pêche en aval de la rive est de la rivière Gatineau. Les solides murs en pierre du moulin constituent, encore aujourd’hui, un attrait particulier au village de Wakefield, tout près de son site d’origine; la ferme de William Fairbairn. Son passé en fut un rempli d’aventures, suite à son second déménagement. Menacée de démolition en 1993, pour faire place à une bretelle routière menant au nouveau pont sur la route 366 traversant la rivière Gatineau, elle fut déménagée par Andy Tommy. Menacée une seconde fois de démolition en 2005, pour faire place à un projet domiciliaire, elle fut transportée, par la
Municipalité de La Pêche, à la demande de la Société historique de la Vallée-de-la-Gatineau sur son site permanent actuel, au centre du parc Hendrick, près du pont couvert de Wakelfield. Ce fut au 1 séptembre, 2012 que le Centre patrimonial de la Maison Fairbairn ouvrit ses portes au grand public. Cette institution possède maintenant un nouveau but focalisant notre propre historique visant surtout son attrait comme destination récréotouristique.
Cette cache contient un bug de voyage appelé SnuggyBug et elle aime rester près de chez elle, la suivre et la déplacer vers une autre cache Sentiers Wakefield Trails (SWT) dans la région.

I read that walking was good for us and we should Walk4Life! This short part of the trail is not too interesting BUT our Fairbairn House is extremely interesting! Did you know it was moved twice? The cache is near a healthy happy spruce tree.
1860: One of Wakefield's oldest dwellings, the Fairbairn house was the home of Scottish settler William Fairbairn. Fairbairn arrived in Wakefield in 1834 and, in 1838, erected the area's first grist mill, beside the La Pêche River just as it begins its descent to join the Gatineau. The family house was built by William in the 1860s.
1993: Threatened with demolition in 1993 to make way for a road approach to the new bridge over the Gatineau River, it was moved across Route 105 from its farm location by Andy Tommy.
2005: About to be torn down to provide space for condo housing, the house was moved again, by the Municipality of La Pêche at the request of the Gatineau Valley Historical Society. Its permanent location is across the river, near the covered bridge, in the seven-acre Hendrick Park.
2012: The new Fairbairn House Heritage Centre first opened its doors to visitors.
