Fairbairn Family William Fairbairn and his wife Jean Wanless were married in 1813, and emigrated to Canada from Roxburghshire, Scotland, in 1817. William was trained as a stone mason and his wife was a nurse. They originally settled in St. Andrews-East, near Lachute, Quebec, but later moved to Bytown, where William worked for a time on the locks of the Rideau Canal. In Bytown, they lived on a plot of land at the foot of Parliament Hill, near where the Supreme Court stands today. He and his family moved north to Wakefield Township in 1834. Members of the Fairbairn family lived in the house until 1906. William died on February 6, 1872; his wife, Jean Wanless, predeceased him in 1868.

Il était maçon de son état et elle était infirmière. Ils s’établirent d’abord à St-Andrews Est, près de Lachute, au Québec, pour déménager sous peu à Bytown, où William Fairbairn travailla sur les écluses du canal Rideau. Ils habitèrent sur un terrain au versant de la Colline parlementaire où se situe aujourd’hui la Cour suprême. La famille alla s’installer ensuite dans le Canton de Wakefield en 1834. Dès leur retour à Wakefield, en 1864, William construisit sa nouvelle résidence à une courte distance en direction ouest de la maison originale en bois rond. Leurs descendants y habitèrent jusqu’en 1906. William décédait le 6 février 1872, quatre ans après le décès de son épouse.
