Lough Money
The inspiration for the Patchwork Mystery Series along The Lecale Way, was the excellent caches placed by 2ndBA.
In patchwork Foundation Piecing was originally a method used to stabilise pieces of fabric that were stitched together. It became popular in the 18thand 19th centuries in England. It is a very accurate method of patchwork, which is especially useful for piecing unusual or awkward shapes and achieving crisp, clean lines in your patchwork. Intricate patterns and indeed pictures can be produced using this technique.
Recently, the use of heavyweight paper as the foundation, has become popular, the paper is used as a template. The shapes on the template are numbered and pieces of fabric are sewn together on the template in numerical order. The fabric is sewn onto the reverse side of the template. Subsequently, when designing a foundation pieced template or sequence which is not symmetrical it is important to ensure the template is a mirror image and a sequence must be written in reverse order to achieve the desired image.
