La Merced 3.0 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

NeWa: Even this totally different hide did not work. I guess placing a geocache at the end of the trail is not possible.

Geocache Description:

Hidden at the end of the scenic and paved Guemes Channel Trail with a good view of La Merced.
Eventually this trail will connect to downtown Anacortes and the Tommy Thompson Trail.

This cache is called "La Merced 3.0" because it is the third (and revised) version of a geocache to honor La Merced..

La Merced was a 4 masted schooner built in 1917. First used for trade and later converted to function as a floating cannery in Alaska. After it was decommissioned in 1966 she was moved and filled with sand to form a breakwater. It is amazing how well it still holds together, even with mature trees growing on it.

La Merced is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
