This series was nominated in the 2019 Victorian Cache of the Year Awards (Best 'Series' of Caches).
Roads go ever ever on,
Over rock and under tree,
By caves where never sun has shone,
By streams that never find the sea;
Over snow by winter sown,
And through the merry flowers of June,
Over grass and over stone,
And under mountains of the moon.
Roads go ever ever on
Under cloud and under star,
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar.
Eyes that fire and sword have seen
And horror in the halls of stone
Look at last on meadows green
And trees and hills they long have known.
— J.R.R. Tolkien

Once you have solved the Final Coordinates it is important to follow the Cache Approach advice that follows immediately after. This is to avoid walking through private land or crossing the golf course.

Walking with Hobbits
Bilbo recites this walking song in "The Hobbit" as he returns home from his great adventure. If you complete all 6 caches together on foot, your own adventure will cover approximately 3.0 km by the time you return to the starting point. You will explore the eastern half of the Healesville Freeway Reserve. The reserve has been transferred from VicRoads to Parks Victoria with the view to renaming it as community parkland. You can follow the progress on the Victorian Government website and subscribe to updates from Parks Victoria. Current media release (August 22, 2025): Delivering the Best New Urban Park in Melbourne.
***SEPTEMBER 2019 UPDATE***
Work is underway to open up access to the reserve. All old horse fencing and empty buildings have been removed in this stretch, and there are numerous muddy tracks left by diggers as part of the process.
***SEPTEMBER 2023 UPDATE***
Park plan finalised with details available via the Victorian Government and Parks Victoria websites.
***APRIL 2024 UPDATE***
.
The park's name has been announced as ngarrak nakorang wilam park, with work commencing later this year. The name means 'Mountain Meeting Place' and was chosen by the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation. The corporation represents Traditional Owners of these lands, the Wurundjeri people, and has been a key stakeholder in planning for this park.
Your Personal Soundtrack
I love the idea of having a musical theme for this cache series, and so want to give you the option of streaming your own personal soundtrack as you walk. Howard Shore composed all the music to the Lord of the Rings movies, and his theme for the Shire is perhaps the most famous.
Alert: as the geocache owner, I ensure that the following SoundCloud link is safe to access. It has not been checked by Geocaching HQ or by the reviewer for possible malicious content, so access it at your own risk.
I hope that Concerning Hobbits will put an extra spring in your step! (opens in a new window)
Opening and closing an ammo can
An ammo can can be a little tricky to open and close. If this will be your first time you might want to watch this video first: How to open and close an ammo box (from 1:10-1:20)
Final Coordinates
The cache is not at the listed coordinates. Use the clues gathered from the previous caches in this series to solve the final coordinates as follows:
S 37° 50.SOUTH E 145° 12.EAST
SOUTH = H x M x (S+T+F+F) + T
EAST = M x (S-F) x (T+H) - (T-F)
Check your coordinates below via the checksums or the solution checker.
Cache Approach
If driving from Boronia Rd please only use Moore Rd and not any of the private laneways, otherwise just continue the walk from number 5. From the Access Point waypoint enter the space between fences and follow the outer fence line along as far as you can before changing direction. At GZ the southern entrance is the most comfortable.
The Return Trip
If you parked on Talarno Ave for the start of the series you can walk back directly via Verona St to the South-West of this cache. Head up to Morack Rd and then on to Talarno Ave. Be alert for wild animals at number 6!
