In Sweden, the availability of a relatively low-cost extendable pole from a local hardware store inspired a whole new type of hide. A container is hung up in a tree in such a way that you can't climb and can't use a ladder to retrieve the cache. The only way to the logbook is by 'fishing' the cache out of the tree using said extendable pole. We have done or attempted a small number of those in Europe and they are tremendous fun.
The trick is not only to retrieve, but also to replace the cache.
This cache, together with Suburban 'FISHING' has been set to introduce this kind of hide to our local caching community.
The container is a bit higher at 8.5m and probably a bit more difficult than the first .
Please note that you WILL need a long pole with a hook of some sort. Do not attempt to retrieve the cache without one.
Once the FTF hunt is over, we are very happy to arrange for you to use ours. Please take care when returning the cache. If you are struggling, please let us know.
No need for stealth. You will be handling a large pole in the middle of suburbia, and while we have considered the proximity to power lines and streets, you will be overlooked by the neighbours. Please explain yourself if they ask.
To start with, please do not attempt this cache at nighttime.
If you are using tent poles, we recommed using some tape to stick them together (not that we have lost the top piece up the tree, wink wink). This is an experimantel first cache. We hope you enjoy this kind of hide. There are many more lovely high trees waiting for a tube to be hung. ENJOY!
