A.) In 1990, the Oakland A’s entered the World Series looking for back-to-back titles and were the favorites to do just that. However, the Cincinnati Reds would have something to say about that, sweeping the Oakland A’s in four straight games.

B.) Known as the “Miracle on Ice” the 1980 Winter Olympic hockey game featured the US vs. Russia in a Cold War battle on the ice. Russia had won 4 straight Olympic gold medals and were stacked with talent while the US team was made up of amateurs and college players. The US won the game and would go on to defeat Finland for the gold medal.

The UMBC Retrievers not only won, but dominated the game holding Virginia to 21 first half points and winning the game by 20 points, 74-54.

G.) Back in 1990, the “Tyson Is Back” fight in Tokyo was built up to be an international showcase for “Iron Mike”. Mike Tyson entered the ring as the undefeated, undisputed heavyweight champion of the world with a record of 37-0. Set to face Tyson was a 7th ranked heavyweight, James ‘Buster’ Douglas, as a 42-1 underdog. The fight went 10 rounds before Buster Douglas shocked the world, knocking Tyson down for the first time in his career. The champ couldn’t make it back to his feet before being counted out and Douglas became the new champion.

Edmondson also played Men’s doubles and won 5 Grand Slam Men’s Doubles titles.
