A four mile circular route containing 10 caches as a tribute to our youngest Grand daughter. This series is best done as an anticlockwise loop starting at the South end of Dubbs road where there is a parking space for 4 cars or so. Alternate parking for one car can be found at Garburn Trail 10. The tracks are generally smooth gravel with one or two rough sections which would cause problems for wheelchair users . Cyclists would have no problems.
There are some exceptional views of Lake Windermere, the Troutbeck Valley and the Langdale Fells from the latter sections of the circuit.
Bird lovers might catch sight of a variety of birdlife as we did when setting the caches….Green Woodpecker, Buzzards, Sky Larks, Pied Wagtails etc.
We also spotted a half dozen Red Deer on the fell slopes above Dubbs Reservoir.
Please note that in Spring , Adders, the UK’s only poisonous snakes can be seen around the perimeters of Dubbs Reservoir but should not be approached.
Dubbs Reservoir was a fishery run by Windermere and Ambleside District Angling Association until English Nature terminated the lease after a temporary closure of the reservoir for repairs to the slipways. The reservoir contained a large number of the native White Tailed Crayfish which is under threat from the American Signal Crayfish which might explain English Nature’s wary approach to re-issuing the lease.
The cache containers are all small clip lock boxes containing just a log book so please bring your own writing equipment.
