A cache placed to highlight Hott Chain Bridge, also known as Greystead Bridge.
This is a suspension bridge which stretches over the River North Tyne. It is quite an isolated but very beautiful location. I passed this together with Helendory and GeoJoy* and it made a perfect spot for lunch between Kielder Dam and Bellingham on our cancer charity based walk. I had a little spare tube container in my bag and we thought this would be a fine place to use it.
The bridge was built in 1862 in order to connect the South Bank of the river with the Border Counties Railway. It was refurbished in 1988. Crossing the bridge affords great views of the river, though if you aren't keen on wobbly wooden bridges under your feet (should have seen the girls' reaction!) I wouldn't recommend it
