On the yet-to-be-converted portion of the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail. Currently part of the VAST trail system. [Update: the trail is now complete all the way across the state!]

When I was a toddler, my family lived in a very old and slightly ramshackle house about a mile up this dirt road, on the hill with a view up the valley from one of the living room windows. One of my favorite things to do was stand at that window to watch the Lamoille Valley Railroad trains way in the distance and count the cars. I have a memory of counting past 100 a few times -- though the LVRC had to get support from the state for track rebuilding and maintenance, the railroad freight business was still a going concern for area businesses. My parents would also bring us down to the crossing during the holidays to see the infamous Santa Train: he'd ride on the caboose of a special holiday train each December to meet the kids along the route.
Today the railroad is long gone and the tracks pulled up, but a good portion of the old route has been converted into a quality bicycling rail trail with ambitions to eventually stretch across the whole state, the entire 93 miles from St. Johnsbury to Swanton. Here the old railbed remains as a functional snowmobile and general recreation trail: a green grassy tunnel at the base of the valley. A beautiful setting for a pleasant walk.
As best I can tell, this cache is located at the spot I could see from my house back then. Check out those gigantic beams; clearly this was made to carry more than snowmobiles.
At the trailhead waypoint there's room for a car or two to park. Don't try to come at this location from VT-108, as you'd be crossing a narrow strip of private property as well as a surprisingly deep creek. Use the trailhead on Wilson Road and it's easy going from there.
Cache difficulty rating subject to change based on feedback. Terrain rating is locked in. Take care with the container's attachment once you find it; it needs to stay attached due to seasonal stresses. If it breaks just let me know so I can perform prompt maintenance. Enjoy!

Visit the Fisher Bridge up in Wolcott, there's even a cache there, GCAHWYW. (replacing the retired GCXFQQ) It was the last railroad covered bridge in regular use in the country.
