Sfendyli is a small village that was sunk in the waters of the Aposelemi Dam that was made in 2012. The dam is the largest water supply project in Crete with a capacity of around 30,000,000 cu. metres. It was created as a result of the increased water needs of the people, due to the serious water shortages experienced in this region. As the water level in the dam changes, so does the view of Sfendyli. In times of drought in the past, the village has been completely visible, and when the dam is full only a few buildings can be seen.
It is a very atmospheric place.
