Slovenians drink more coffee each year
Coffee consumption in Slovenia has been increasing by the year and so has the price of a kilo of roast and ground coffee, the Statistics Office said in a report released on International Coffee Day, observed for the second time this year. (2016)
In 2012, a household member in Slovenia consumed an average 3.5 kilos of coffee or coffee substitutes. The rising trend can be seen when the figure is compared to the one from 2000, which stood at 3.l kilos.
The price of a kilogram of roast and ground coffee is meanwhile also increasing. Last year, one kilo cost EUR 8, while a cup of black coffee cost EUR 1.2. Since 2003, the former increased by 12.5%, while the latter became 69% more expensive.
In 2014, 35 Slovenian companies were in the coffee and tea production business, while 64 companies were involved in the wholesale trade of coffee, tea, cocoa and spices, according to the Statistics Office. In the same year, there were 312 registered confectionery shops and cafes, while the number of units which served drinks stood at 3,474.
Last year, Slovenia imported 12.6 million tonnes of coffee worth EUR 45.5m, down 21% from 2014. The bulk of the imported coffee came from Brazil, Italy, Columbia and India.
Slovenia, which is not a coffee producing country, exported 2.8 million tonnnes of coffee worth EUR 14.4m. Most of it went to Croatia (57.9%) and Italy (10.4%).
International Coffee Day was marked for the first-time last year as part of the 2015 Milan Expo show upon the 2014 initiative the International Coffee Organization (ICO).

V letu 2012 je član gospodinjstva v Sloveniji porabil povprečno 3,5 kg kave ali kavnih nadomestkov. Trend naraščanja se kaže v primerjavi s tistim iz leta 2000, ki je znašal 3,1 kilograma.
Medtem pa se povečuje tudi cena kilograma pražene in mlete kave. V lanskem letu je znašal en kilogram 8 evrov, skodelica črne kave pa 1,2 evra. Od leta 2003 so se prve povečale za 12,5%, slednje pa za 69% dražje.
V letu 2014 je bilo 35 podjetij v dejavnosti proizvodnja kave in čaja, 64 podjetij pa je bilo vključenih v trgovino na debelo s kavo, čajem, kakavom in začimbami. V istem letu je bilo registriranih 312 slaščičarn in kavarn, število enot, ki so služile pijače, pa je znašalo 3.474.
Slovenija je lani uvozila 12,6 milijona ton kave v vrednosti 45,5 milijona evrov, kar je za 21 odstotkov manj kot leta 2014. Večina uvožene kave je prišla iz Brazilije, Italije, Kolumbije in Indije.
Slovenija, ki ni država proizvajalka kave, je izvozila 2,8 milijona ton kave v vrednosti 14,4 milijona EUR. Največ je bilo v Hrvaški (57,9%) in Italiji (10,4%).
