Brooklands
The lost suburb of Brooklands was the northern most suburb of Christchurch and in the 1960's consisted of what has been described as ramshackle dwellings. Over the next 50 years it had developed into a community with much more substantial housing. There was a bus service and I seem to remember a shop. The was also a cafe near GZ plus a domain. The fire station still remains. I noticed a post box along the main road but I'm not sure if it still gets used. From GZ you can access the Brooklands lagoon and observe the bird life. It is still a nice spot to visit.
After the 2010/2011 Canterbury earthquakes the land was red zoned and almost all of the home have been demolished and removed however the tree lines of the properties still remain giving the area a park like appearance. A once vibrant community now has about 25 residents remaining.
