Starting Point of the Riesling Trail begins at The Restored Auburn Railway station which heads north continues through Leasingham, Watervale, Penwortham, Sevenhill, Clare to The Old Barinia Siding just North of Clare on Barinia Road near Stanley Flat. The Distance of 33 kms . If you are walking you may take 7.5hours or if you are riding a bike 4.5 hours. But with many stops along the Riesling trail you may visit several places and go through vineyards, Sevenhill cemetery the Bridge over the Quarry road as you then become closer to Clare show Grounds then into Clare at the northern end of Clare there are sculptures of a farmer with a flock of sheep then as you get closer to Barinia its more a natural Bushland and pass White Hut cemetery then more vineyards it may take a while longer with to go along the trail with all the historic and places .
The Riesling trail is part of the original railway line that travelled between Adelaide and Spalding established in the 1860’s. during the 1980’s the future of the railway line was uncertain but in 1983 Ash Wednesday with the bushfire that burnt through the region caused major damage so the decision was made to close the line.
In 1994 the line reopened as the Recreational Riesling Trail for walking and riding. On week ends you may find a group of people doing Clare Park Run where you can Run or walk the trail. Recently on the 26th July a large train Silhouette was erected at the Turn Table area in Clare also along the trail you will see Sculptures. Come and Enjoy the Clare Riesling Trail.
