Geocache Description:

Kuching City is divided by Sarawak River into two sides, the old and main town centre area where China Town, Main Bazaar, river walk along esplanade, Museums are located, and Dewan Undangan Negeri, Astana, Fort Margherita and Brooke Gallery on the other side of the river. These two parts are connected with road bridges, however at the town centre, the connection is via this pedestrian bridge known as Golden Bridge. The bridge was officially opened on 11 November 2017.

Golden Bridge

The Golden Bridge cost RM35 million to build. The S-shape design was inspired by the meandering of the rivers of Sarawak. The total length of the bridge is 336m with a width of 3.25m and looms 12 meters above the water. It is supported by two cables that are 45 metres high from two 48-degree outward angled steel towers topped out with stylised hornbills, denoting the emblem of Sarawak. The walkway appears as being held by a web of angled wires — reminiscent of the arched wings of a traditional Bidayuh bamboo bridge. Two viewing decks, both measuring 30m by 10m and located on each pier, allow pedestrians to stop and enjoy the panoramic views of the city and traditional Malay villages nearby, including enabling them to enjoy closer look at the Astana and the Sarawak State Legislative. In the evening, expect one of the loveliest sunsets ever.

Enjoy your visit by walking along the waterfront. Enjoy the local food available at several kiosks along the river. There benches under the tress you can sit and distress and watch the life goes by, or do the river cruise from the wharf at the river waterfront. At night the bridge is lighted with colourful lights.

KUCHING WATERFRONT MUSICAL FOUNTAIN

Across the bridge, there is the Darul Hana Musical Fountain which combines three elements namely music, water and light to create an amazing sight at night. The fountain shoot jets of water up to 25m high on a 100m-wide floating pontoon. The Darul Hana Musical Fountain also can create a 9m high and 80m wide water wall.

The Kuching Waterfront Darul Hana Musical Fountain only operates at night at the following time:

• Monday - Thursday 8:30 – 9:45PM, 9:30 – 9:45PM

• Friday – Sunday 8:30 – 9:45PM, 9:30 – 9:45PM, 10:30 – 10:45PM

Each show would run for 15 minutes. The time for the shows may be altered by DBKU according to events at the Kuching Waterfront.
