The Texan moonlight was streaming through the window, and Marvin, who was barely 17, tossed and turned in his bed. He heard his Dad screaming âyouâll damn well get more than you deserveâ then a loud thud and then silence. Marvin was angry, but experience had taught him not to intervene. Then the stair, creaked and Marvin decided that it was time to make a strategic exit. He crept out of his bedroom window, âborrowedâ his Dadâs Harley and rode into town. He rode and rode giving no attention to where he was going. Finally, he realised he was in a part of town he did not know. He saw light flooding out from a side alley. Marvin, drew up to the alley, got off the bike, and went to investigate. He turned a corner into an alley and a faded poster caught his eye, it read:
Looking for Lost Boys and Golden Girls. If you were born out of time call Eddie on 232323.
Then he heard a noise.
âPsstâ, Marvin stood still.
âPsstâ the voice went again, Marvin turned, and there she was, a girl, her golden hair glistening in the moonlight.
âPsstâ, she said again, âare you a lost boy?â she asked
âI am not sureâ said Marvin, âwhere am I, what time is it?â
âYou are in an alley, at midnight, at the Lost and Found clubâ said the girl. âI was in the club, listening to Eddie go on and on about me meeting a lost boy. Then I felt woozy and when I came round, I was outside and then you appearedâ?
Marvin was confused, but he reasoned that although he did not know an Eddie; the girl was beautiful, and he was kind of lost â so two out of three ainât bad.
âI donât know an Eddie, but I am sort of lostâ he said. âMy nameâs Marvin, whatâs yours?â
âPattiâ, she replied. âThis is all a bit bewildering.â
âI couldnât have said it better myselfâ, said Marvin âwhat is a lost boy anyway?â.
âA lost boy is many thingsâ, she said âan outlaw, a lover, a man living on the outsideâ.
âWhat does that mean?â, said Marvin
âIt meansâ she said angrily, âhe is a Rock ânâ Roll hero!â
âOhâ said Marvin quickly seeing an opportunity, as he considered himself a bit of a singer, and dreamed of being a rock star.
Suddenly, there was a movement at the end of the alley. âWhoâs there?â, said the girl
âJimâ, said the shadow
âAre you a lost boy?â, she asked
âpossibly, I am definitely a boy with nothing to loseâ said Jim
ânothing to lose?â, said the girl
âEddie, sent me, said if I came here just after midnight, Iâd find the people who would make my dreams come true. He said he would have come with me but had a tip off as to where he could find original sinâ.
âReallyâ, said Marvin, who was now more confused than ever and slightly freaked out.
âYesâ, said Jim, âapparently, when I meet them, we will make the canyons rock!â.
âItâs all coming back to me nowâ said the girl. Before, I passed out, I recall Eddie saying that when I met the lost boys, together we would stand in the storm.
âWhat, the hell does that mean? âsaid Marvin who was getting cross with the cryptic nature of the conversation, âthis is getting us nowhere fastâ.
âDonât, you get itâ, said Jim. âThis is fate, us meetingâ
âI get it âsaid Patti, âand togetherâŚâ
âtogetherâ, said Marvin delightedly, finally catching on, âwe could all be Godzâ
⌠to be continuedâŚ.
