This cache has been placed to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of The Lonsdale Bible Society, which was established in Ulverston in 1958.
Originally (1949) located in premises in The Weint, above the Coop, it was based there for 8 years before closing in 1957. After a public meeting, held at The Coronation Hall on 2nd November 1957, the Lonsdale Bible Society was officially formed.
New premises were opened on Daltongate, on 16th August 1958, but in May 1966 the stock & premises were destroyed by fire. Fortunately, they were able to reopen 3 months later.
In 1983 the Daltongate premises were sold & a move was made to rented premises in the Emmanuel Christian Centre in Mill Street.
The final move, to its current premises on Market Street, was made in 2010 & the 60th Anniversary was celebrated in 2018.
Although the approach to the cache is wheelchair accessible, help may be needed to reach & return the container. PLEASE REPLACE EXACTLY AS FOUND, ON THE CORRECT SIDE, OTHERWISE IT IS EASILY VISIBLE TO ALL PASSERS-BY
